Highway 19, Waimea to Hilo
Highway 19 leaves Waimea and follows the Hamakua coast to Hilo. The
highway is on the northeast and east flank of Mauna Kea volcano. Heavy
rainfall and thick soils made this district a major producer of
sugar.
