October 1999

The last eruption of this South American volcano was in 1985. It was only an eruption of VEI 3, but the mudflows that it created killed more than 23,000 people making it the second most deadly eruption of the century. What volcano is it?

This is a North American stratovolcano that stands 4,559 ft above the surrounding plain. Its cone which, mostly made of andesite and dacite, has a crater at its summit. Also, an active fumarole sits along its northern slope. Can you name this volcano?

This Southeast Asian volcano has erupted over 50 times in the last 172 years. Ten of those eruptions have been fatal. The current eruption started 32 years ago and has resulted in nearly 500 deaths so far. Can you name this stratovolcano?
