Popo story from Jose G. CardenasJose G. Cardenas sent the following,
My son, Carlos, his friend, Scott, and I camped at the foot of Popo about five miles northwest of the volcano proper on Sunday, August 10,1997. As we were setting camp, at about 4:15 p.m. the volcano began to erupt. This was indeed the most exciting part of our trip. The eruption lasted about 30 to 40 minutes and we were able to see plumes of ash and steam rise high into the air one and one-half times the heighth of Popo. It was exciting and scary. We took many pictures, but the sensations of being there cannot be experienced through any photos.
