There was once a tribe in the valley in central Mexico, whertwo lovers lived. The man was a warrior and the woman was the daughter of a nobleman. The father of the woman disagreed of their love, so in a war he arranged for herr lover to go fight, and while he was away he told his daughter that he had died in a battle. In her depression she poisoned herself and died just as he came back and he foudn her dead lying on her back, her name was Itztlazihuatl, and in pain he kneeled at her feet and stayed there for so long that the earth covered him and he became the popocatepetl.
