what is the largest lavaflow in the world

rocky Brian Baum

Dear Brian,

I don't think they have been given individual names, but probably any one of numerous flood basalt flows that together make up the Deccan Traps flood basalt province would be the biggest. There is also a flood basalt province in the NW USA, called the Columbia River Basalts. These have been mapped out flow-by-flow, but they're all pretty puny compared to the Deccan Traps flows (NW India). There is also a province called the Siberian Traps which is reputed to be bigger than the Deccan, but so little is known about it.
