How long can eruptions last?
Eruptions last as long as there is magma that is under sufficient
pressure that it comes out of the ground. Based on observations of
3211 eruptions, the compilers of the Smithsonian Institution book,
VOLCANOES OF THE WORLD, found that about 50% of eruptions last less than
two months. Only 17% of eruptions last longer than 1 year.
Hope this information helps!
