readerDear reader,
Forecasting volcanic eruptions is usually based on seismicity, tilt, leveling, and other methods. Describing and mapping the older deposits of the volcano is certainly important. It provides information on type, size, and frequency of eruptions. This information is mostly used for hazards assessment. I do not know of any research that applies this type information to predicting eruptions. You might try the search tool for Bulletin of Volcanology in VolcanoWorld.
