Have scientists discovered how to predict volcanoes? If so, how? Approximately how many volcanoes erupt each year? Which volcano has erupted the most ?

rocky Sapna Iyer

Dear Sapna,

Volcanologists use several methods to monitor volcanoes prior to eruptions. Have a look at these questions and answers in Ask a Volcanologist: 3, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 19, 21, 23, 25, 26, 38, 43, 50, and 56 in 10. Volcanic Eruptions.

About 60 volcanoes erupt each year.

Kilauea has been erupting nearly continuously since 1983. Sakurajima in Japan, Erebus in Antarctica, and Etna in Italy also erupt almost continuously.
