Do you agree that a major volcanic eruption, such as a great eruption of Krakatau, could have been responsible for the extinction of nearly 70 percent of life on this planet at some time?

rocky

Hi ,

No . . . there is no geologic evidence that a volcanic eruption has produced such a major extinction . . . .meteor impacts could . . .

But there is a the question of the Permian extinction, which was not associated with a volcanic event, but may have been a long-term climatic change, possibly related to continental drift, mountain growht, and rapidly changing sea level.

Sincerely,
John Dvorak
