Jo AnnaI'm sure that somewhere in the distant geologic past there must have been volcanoes in Nigeria, but that was long ago. In fact, I'm pretty sure that the Niger river runs through what is called a "failed rift". This is a place where the African continent started to split apart but didn't complete the job. This splitting would have been accompanied by extensive volcanism (as the successful E. African Rift shows today). The nearest active volcanism to Nigeria is in Cameroon.
Sincerely,
Scott Rowland
