I want to make a volcano for a science project. Any tips on construction and making it erupt ?

If you want to model how cinder cones form you might consider setting up this apparatus:

It would probably cost $10-15 to make. Most of the materials are available at the hardware store. I used fine sand as pyroclastic material.
