Can I get some of the pictures, not the satellite pictures, for free?
The pictures that are shown in VolcanoWorld come from two sources: NASA
and individual photographers on the ground. All of the NASA pictures were
acquired with tax-payer's money and are thus owned by each one of us. You
may capture these images from your computer screen and use them in your
own school reports or private collections. The NASA pictures can not be
used in advertisements without getting permission from NASA.
If you want to buy a photographic print from NASA you can find out the
details by clicking here .
Capturing an image depends on the type of WWW browser you are using
and if you launch an external viewer or not. If you use an external
viewer just save it to your computer with SAVE from your external
viewer's menu. If you have an internal viewer you may be able to change
it to an external viewer (making sure that you have an external viewer on
your computer, such as JPegView ) in the PREFERENCES directory of your browser,
by changing viewer from internal to external and giving the path of that viewing
application.
The pictures showing volcanoes from the ground were all taken by
individuals who are nice enough to share their pictures with
VolcanoWorld. They prefer that users of VW do not capture their pictures
for use in other places. Thanks for respecting their wishes. And enjoy
all the photos - a nice thing about the World Wide Web is you always have
access to neat things, without having to store them on your own computer!
