Dear Reader,

That's a good question and something we deal with daily. Our favorite method is going to volcanoes and taking the photos ourselves. Chuck Scott, and I also have pretty big photo collections that we are gradually working through. But we are constantly looking for photos of other volcanoes. We contact volcanologists that we know have worked in specific areas and request photos. We contact state geologic surveys I have visited the photo archives of the U.S. Geological Survey in Hawaii and in Denver to buy duplicate slides (see addresses below). Some U.S.G.S. photos are available on CD-ROM. We scan photos from U.S. Geological Survey reports. Some slides are available from geological societies (but may be protected by copyright). We bug our friends for slides. We write people in the tourism industry in volcanic areas. We contact volcanic national parks and monuments. Have a look at the slides sets available in Volcano Mall. If we missed a potential source please lets us know.
