How do volcanoes effect the environment through air pollution, especially through the spewing of hazardous gases into the stratosphere and atmosphere? How can people be protected against such gases and their effects? For example..a large eruption which threatens the entire world population...Thank you........AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE PLS,

rocky Aziz Al-Humaidhi

Dear Aziz,

A very large eruption might cause enough cooling, perhaps one degree Celsius, to impact world food production. That would be the biggest threat. Some volcanic gases may be involved in ozone depletion. Protection against these potential hazards might be difficult. More temperature tolerant crops might need to be developed. For the lower ozone, people need to be better educated about the dangerous of exposure to harmful UV rays.
