How would you rate your chances of surviving a pyroclastic flow?

rocky Eddie Ibbetson

Dear Eddie,

Pretty good since I live in North Dakota. Seriously, I'm not sure how to answer your question. I have no plans to put myself at risk from pyroclastic flows even if I do visit an active volcano which is producing them. I strongly recommend that the public follows the evacuation plans put forward by local authorities and stay out of restricted areas. In general, once you are in a pyroclastic flow your chances of survival are very small. The wise thing to do would be to stay out of the way until the eruption is over.
