How long did it take to get Hawaii?
Ian
Dear Ian,
The "life span" of a typical Hawaiian volcano is about 500,000-1,000,000
years. Long periods of gradual growth and erosion are punctuated by a
nearly instantaneous catastrophic events that shape entire volcanoes. In
a few days we will have some background information on how the volcanoes
evolve in Volcano Lessons.
