Dear Steve Mattox,
Where is the deadliest Volcano located? How many
land Volcano are there still active? Is there any active volcanos here in the
U.S.A.?
Edward Izzo
Dear Edward,
Tambora, a volcano in Indonesia, erupted in 1815. 92,000 people died from
tephra, tsunami, and starvation. There are about 1500 active volcanoes.
Most of them are on land. Wood and Kienle list about 242 volcanoes in
the United States. Most of these are active. Some are large volcanic
systems like Yellowstone. Others are small cinder cones like Sunset
Crater. You might visit Images of Volcanoes to learn more.
