What are the different parts of a volcano and where are they located on a volcano?

Dear Erin,

Volcanoes have summits (at the top of course) and flanks (everything below the summit - the sides). Some volcanoes, like those in Hawaii, have rift zones that extend down from the summit on the flank(s) of the volcano. That's the basics.
