What is your interpretation of the the theory that the Deccan flood basalts are a result of crustal damage from shock waves converging on the area from a meteor strike at Chixilub on the Yucatan Peninsula?

rocky Clint Stallard

Mr. Stallard,

I think the idea is really clever. However, I am not an expert on either flood basalts or large meteorite impacts. I think the answer will have to be determined by careful dating of the two events. As I understand it, there is some argument about which actually occurred first.

Sorry this isn't much of an answer.
