Janelle KuterHave you checked out the "types of volcanoes" section of VolcanoWorld and the "Introduction to Hawaiian Volcanism" section? Both of these have information about hotspot volcanoes. Essentially it is just a volcano that has as its magma source a hotspot. Hotspots are poorly understood other than the fact that they appear to last for tens of millions of years (at least), produce good quantities of hot basaltic magma, and don't move.
