Old Growth: Challenges for the Future

There are only a few large, undisturbed areas of old growth forest left.

And as our population grows, ever-increasing demands are placed on these ancient forests.

We need ancient forests today more than ever. They are needed for wildlife and plant habitat, to protect streams and rivers in wilderness, for recreation, and for timber.

Managing the forests for many uses is a continually changing job.

This management makes changes in response to society's needs, values, and understanding.

It is important to maintain intact old growth forests, while providing for the needs of society.

Since we live in a global community, how we manage our natural resources effects the entire world.
