The types and numbers of birds
found in the ashfall forests were similar to those found in neighboring
forests untouched by the ashfall.
Northern flickers (Colaptes
auratus) continued to searched for ants around the bases of rotten
logs.
The gray jay (Perisoreus
canadensis), also known as the camp robber, was very common in ashfall
forests. There it fed on seeds, berries, and insects.
