Blowdown, Insects and Spider Survivors



Many insects and spiders survived the blast in sheltered locations.

Some were underground or underwater. Others lived in rock crevices or under rotting logs.

Their small size, large numbers, different life stages and inactivity during the early morning hours of the eruption improved their chances of survival.
