La Reforma Volcano, Baja California
This is a photo of La Reforma volcano, in Baja California. La Reforma is
an old volcano, with no historic eruptions. It consists of huge sheets
of ignimbrites (rocks formed from large pyroclastic flows), here exposed
in the gully in the foreground. At the center of La Reforma is a
mountain a few hundred meters hign. It was originally considered to be
like a lava dome, but at the top are sedimentary rocks! La Reforma is
indeed an interesting old volcano, and it deserves to be studied in
greater detail.
