The Poor Man's Pebble Volcano

This is THE simplest volcano model. All you need is a small bucket of
pea gravel. Pour the bucket out to make a cone. Voila! The world's
simplest volcano. I suggest this model for students (or teachers) that
put their model project off until the night before it is due. Of course
volcanoes are not really made of pea gravel. Some cones are made of
cinder that is about the same size as pea gravel. Like most cinder cones
your pebble volcano is unconsolidated (not glued together) and could easily be mined for its economic value. The slope of the flanks of the
pebble volcano are also pretty close to the slope of the flanks of real
cinder cones. Perhaps this isn't such a bad volcano model after all?
