Living with the Eruption (Grades 4-6)
Activity 4. relates the eruption chronology to events in your
students' lives. The vertical time line is divided into years. Major
events during the eruption are listed on the left side of the line. Have
your students place arrows along the time line and short descriptions of
the following events: their birthdays, the birthday of their brothers or
sisters, the month and year they started school, the month and year of
visits to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and the month and year of any
other events they feel are important. Have your students compare their
lives with the life of the eruption.
