Grouping Volcanic Products (Grades K-3)
Volcanic products can be divided into two groups:
lava
and tephra.
Pillow, pahoehoe, and aa are the common types of lava. Blocks, bombs,
lapilli, and ash are the common types of tephra. Introduce these terms
to your students using slides, photographs, or hand samples. Ask them to
group each product as either lava or tephra. Additional photos of
