A Teacher's Guide to the Geology of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is available from the Hawaii Natural History Association. The guide contains 18 lessons for K-12 teachers. Each lesson consists of Lesson at a Glance, Key Concepts, Lesson Outcomes, Teacher Background, Teaching Suggestions, and Useful References. The Teaching Suggestions contain 165 activities targeted for specific grade levels (K-3, 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12). Sixty annotated slides are included.

The guide is $64.95 (plus shipping and handling). A 15% discount is available if the the guide is bought with a school purchase order.

About the author:

Steve Mattox received a Ph.D. in geology in 1992. He worked as a seasonal interpretive ranger at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and as a lecturer for the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Steve is now on the faculty at Grand Valley State University.
