Spatter

Spatter is an accumulation of very fluid pyroclasts, coating the surface around a vent. Spatter landed on this tree during the 1973 eruption on the south flank of Kilauea. Photograph by D.W. Peterson, U.S. Geological Survey, May 5, 1973.
