Jim Gale (Co-I) is the Chief Naturalist at Mt. St. Helens (MSH) National Volcanic Monument. He has led the team that developed interpretive services at MSH, including the creation of >200 interpretive signs, five interpretive trails, two multi-million dol lar visitor centers with state of the art interactive touch screen, videodisk illustrated displays. He has collaborated with teachers, scientists, Apple Computer, and the Educational Services Division 112 in the development of a series of curriculum mater ials including A Living Laboratory - Volcanoes and Mt. St. Helens: Fire and Life videodisk and Hypercard stack. Jim is a Master Performer in Interpretation for the N.W. Region of the Forest Service, and he was selected as the 1993 National Forest Interpreter of Year by the USDA Forest Service. As a government employee, Jim will will receive no funds from the grant, but his employer - the USDA Forest Service - will contribute 100 hrs/yr of his time. Additionally, his Forest Service colleague, Monument Scientist Peter Frezen, will spend 100 hrs supporting VW.
