World Organization of Volcano Observatories (WOVO)

Wairakei Research Centre, New Zealand

Volcanic interests of the Wairakei Research Centre (WRC) cover the Kermadec Islands, Auckland, Taupo Volcanic Zone (White Island, Okataina, Maroa, Rotorua, Taupo, Tongariro centres), Taranaki and Antarctica. Volcano observations are conducted in conjunction with normal geological duties which also include geothermal studies.

The Crown Research Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences Ltd (IGNS) replaces the Geology and Geophysics division of New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR). Volcano investigations from Wairakei are frequently carried out in conjuction with staff of other Crown Research Institutes and Universities.
